Jeff Burton will make his 500th career Cup Series Start this weekend in California.
Jeff Burton will add his name to an exclusive list on Sunday when he takes the green flag at Sunday’s Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway for his 500th career start in NASCAR’s premier series. He will become the 29th driver to reach the 500-start mark. He is also 30th all-time with 20 victories, including his first at Texas Motor Speedway’s inaugural event in 1997, back-to-back wins at Darlington Raceway in 1999, two Coca-Cola 600 wins at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in 1999 and 2001, and under the lights at Daytona International Speedway in 2000. Over 16 years of Cup Series competition, Burton has compiled 114 top-five and 205 top-10 finishes.
JEFF BURTON
What are your thoughts as you embark on your 500th start?
“It’s pretty hard to believe I’m coming up on my 500th start. Professionally, there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. Competing in NASCAR’s top level series has been a lifelong dream and I’m fortunate that I have been doing what I love for as long as I have but I still believe my best years are ahead of me. I’ve learned a lot over the years and this environment has made me a better person because of it. Racing is something I dreamed of as a kid and I’m fortunate that I am doing it.”

NNS Recap: Kyle Busch Dominant in Camping World RV Service 300
By Reid Spencer
Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service
FONTANA, CALIF. (August 30, 2008) — Give Kyle Busch credit for being a quick study.
Nudged out of the way and deprived of a win by Carl Edwards in last Saturday’s Sprint Cup race at Bristol, Busch didn’t let Edwards anywhere near his rear bumper in the closing laps of Saturday night’s Camping World RV Service 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Auto Club Speedway.
After a restart with eight laps remaining, Busch pulled away, as he had done consistently all night long, to hold off his nemesis and win the race under caution when Josh Wise wrecked on the white-flag lap.
The victory was Busch’s seventh of the season in the series and the 18th of his career. Busch now has 18 victories in NASCAR’s top three series this season — eight in Cup, seven in Nationwide and three in the Craftsman Truck Series. He now has won in all three series at Auto Club Speedway along with Mark Martin.
