Ron Hornaday, in an ESPN interview has admitted to using testosterone for over a year prior to it’s banning by NASCAR’S list. He said that that he was using it for a medical condition that eventually was diagnosed as a hyperactive thyroid. He told ESPN that he used it for about 13 months but said “I couldn’t see a difference, that’s why I stopped.”
Ron has records of doctors perscriptions from the clinic and applied the substance by rubbing a “pea-sized” drop into his thigh. The testosterone and HGH are the same substances that rocked Major League Baseball and the NFL.
NASCAR will investigate further this weekend in New Hampshire, spokesman Ramsey Poston said “It’s hard to see whether it’s a violation or not, there are certain prescriptions that drivers can take, and we look at them on a case-by-case basis. If it’s not putting other drivers at risk or enhancing performance and it’s used as intended we’ll make determinations as they come up.”
NASCAR only does drug testing when there is a reasonable suspicion and steroids and other performance enhancing drugs were only added to NASCAR’s banned list this year. CEO Brian France is planning on an expansion to its drug testing policy soon.
Ron Hornaday is last year’s Craftsman Truck Series Champion, and drives for Kevin Harvick Incorporated. Ron also won this past weekend’s race from Gateway Missouri.

I know Ron on a personal level. Anyone that knows him would know that in his case, there is no way to improve on his already stellar performance. I believe he was hoodwinked by some lowrate reporter trying to make a name for himself by using an actual medical condition to alledge that NASCAR has drug problems. Maybe they do, but Ron does not and he had a medical excuse. We all know that the media is less than honest. They will always sacrifice their integrity and honor for the sake of selling a story. They bring in there so called “experts” who are no doubt on the payroll to stir up the hornets nest of controversy. I have learned my lesson about the media. We must remember that they hide under the protection of the constitution pretending to inform the people. What they really do is distort and deflect variations of the truth to further the cause of their bottom line, and that is ultimately, TO MAKE MONEY…..
Thanks Richard for your comment. Keep in mind some of us media types just report the news instead of trying to create the news. Please note I did post a followup story after Ron held his press conference on Friday. Clearly this was a health issue, and not used for performance reasons.
