Moms unite to start engines
This being Mothers Day weekend, who better to give the command to start engines on Saturday than the drivers Mom's. The list of mothers who have agreed to participate so far includes Jeff Gordon's mother, Carol Bickford; Pam Boas, Tony Stewart's mom; Diane Newman, mother of Ryan Newman; Dale Jarrett's mom, Martha Jarrett; Kyle Petty's mom, Lynda Petty; Ramona Vickers, mother of Brian Vickers; and Susie Nolff, mother of Scott Riggs.

Gordon fast at Charlotte / Rain wipes out practice
Jeff Gordon topped the speed charts on the second day of Charlotte testing this week with a lap of 189.056mph. At Darlington yesterday, teams had their early practice sessions wiped out by rain.

Fines 'O Plenty from 'Dega
NASCAR handed down 11 Cup Series penalties, 2 Busch probations, and 2 Truck Series fines from Talladega rules violations. Among them are the #00 Kenny Wallace Cup team, the 32 team, 41, 5 and others. In the Busch Series, Kevin Lepage was fined for not following a NASCAR official on pit road, and in the Truck Series Brendan Gaughan's team and Sean Murphy's team's were fined. Expensive weekend for teams, lucrative for NASCAR.

Cup series drivers are again invading the Busch series race on Friday. Look for moonlighters like Brian Vickers, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jarrett, Jeff Burton and 5 others.

Testing | Charlotte | Richmond
Brian Vickers had the top speed this week at testing in Charlotte with a speed of 186.130mph. He then celebrated by wrecking his 25 car with a few minutes left in the test....Brian is okay. Elliott Sadler was fastest in Richmond tests.

Burton jackman back in North Carolina
Jeff Burton's jackman Josh Yost was released from the hospital in Alabama after being treated for torn ligaments and severe cut on his right ankle. The injury occurred on Sunday when Rusty Wallace hit him during a pit stop. He was scheduled for surgery in North Carolina yesterday.

Darlington Sold Out
All grandstand seating is officially sold out for the Cup race at Darlington. Infield or RV tickets are still available. This race marks the first time the track will hold a Saturday night event fully under the lights. Last November's race started in the afternoon and ended under the lights.

Huge testing at Lowes this week
A huge test session is scheduled this week at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte. At least 25 Cup drivers are scheduled to run today and tomorrow. Among them are Greg Biffle, Terry Labonte, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Dale Jarrett and others.

Burton becomes an actor on the WB
ON TV
Tonight on the WB (Tue), be sure to check out Jeff Burton driver of the #31 Cingular Chevrolet, on the show "One Tree Hill" at 9pm tonight. The episode was filmed at Lowes Motor Speedway, and has a racing based story line.

He led 139 of the 188 laps, survived a massive wreck, goes 2 for 2 this year on restrictor plate tracks, and is now 4 of 5 on these tracks...of course I'm talking about Jeff Gordon and the #24 team

OTHER STORIES ON THE DAY

-A monster wreck on lap 132 took out 25 cars, over half the field.

-It's the second biggest wreck at Talladega

-They red flagged the race for 43 minutes to clean up and repair the SAFER walls.

-The wreck sent 10 drivers to the infield care center, all are okay

-A mini big one towards the end of the race involved Dale Earnhardt Jr., points leader Jimmie Johnson, poll-sitter Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle and others.

On Saturday Martin Truex Jr. brought his mangled 8 car to victory lane in a crash filled Busch race.
