Still Nextel Cup for 2006 Sprint and Nextel have announced that NASCAR's top series will remain the Nextel Cup Series through 2006. Any changes to the name for 2007 will be announced before next season starts, so stay tuned.

Hmiel jobless until at least 2007 The official word coming from NASCAR is that Shane Hmiel will be suspended until at least 2007 at which time they will evaluate if he'll be allowed back into competition. Shane was suspended back in 2003 after failing a substance abuse test, and again this year for his second offense. June 23, 2005
C(K)asy's chiefs get fined A couple of C(k)asy's had their crew chiefs get fined for infractions from Michigan. The crew chiefs for Kasey Kahne and Casey Mears. Both violations were found during pre-qualifying inspection and had to do with problems with the cars bodies. Tommy Baldwin for the 9 team was fined $10k, and Jimmie Elledge from the 41 was docked $1000. June 23, 2005

Even pro's need a little practice Even the pro's need to brush up on their skills once and while, and especially when it comes to road course racing. For example Dale Jarrett and Elliott Sadler spent some time this week at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix Arizona. It just goes to show you, no one has this road course stuff figured out completely. June 21, 2005
Ganassi fields 4th car at Infineon Chip Ganassi Racing will field a 4th car for this weekend's road course race. Scott Pruett will take the wheel of the #39 Dodge featuring Texaco's "Shine On" paint scheme. Scott has 35 career Cup series starts and normally drives Ganassi's Grand Am sports car. June 21, 2005

Stremme in, Marlin out of #40 Sterling Marlin is officially out of the #40 Chip Ganassi Dodge next year. Over the weekend it was announced that David Stremme will take over the car and current sponsor Coors will only cover 17 races. Lone Star Steakhouse will cover the rest. June 20, 2005
RCR settles Earnhardt lawsuit Richard Childress Racing and United of Omaha Insurance company have settled their lawsuit on a $3.7 million dollar claim after the death of Dale Earnhardt. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. June 20, 2005

Newman gets first Michigan poll On Saturday Ryan Newman added Michigan to the list of tracks that he owns a poll at. The lap at just over 37 seconds gave him his 32nd poll in just 104 races. He averaged 194.232mph around the 2 mile oval. June 20, 2005
