Kyle Busch becomes youngest poll sitter Kyle Busch breaks a track qualifying record with a speed of 188.25mph and a time of 38.248secs. Kyle is the youngest poll sitter in NASCAR's premier division. His #5 Cup car will lead the field to the green flag on Sunday. February 26, 2005

McSwain plays the NASCAR home version Michael "Fatback" McSwain is at home in North Carolina recovering from outpatient back surgery on Friday. He will still be able to call the shots of Ricky Rudd's #21 Ford from all the way accross the country. Labonte / Elliott begin 2005 Veterans Terry Labonte and Bill Elliott will make their 2005 debut this weekend at California. They are both running a limited schedule, Terry will run 10 races this year and next, and Bill isn't quite sure how many. Look for Labonte in the #44 Chevy, and Elliott in the #91 Dodge. Give us your keys This is the first weekend where the new impound rule takes affect for the teams. Basically Cup teams will have two one hour practice sessions today, qualify tomorrow, and the cars are then locked up until Sunday. Busch and the Trucks will follow a similar schedule. New year, new rules Some other rules changes that also take affect this weekend, like a shorter rear spoiler which goes from 5 1/2 inches to 4 1/2. And a new gear ratio also goes into play which will reduce the RPM's on the engine, these rules are for all non-restrictor plate tracks in 2005. February 24, 2005

Cup guys invade Busch race...again The Busch Series race on Saturday will be packed with Cup drivers just like at Daytona. Dale Jarrett will return to the series for the first time in 5 years driving the #90 CitiFinancial Ford, as well as Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Sterling Marlin, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick, Jamie McMurray, and Tony Stewart will try to get two in a row in the #33. Fines O' Plenty from Daytona NASCAR pockets $102,000 in fines from 15 Daytona penalties. The largest was $50,000 for Robby Gordon's crew chief Bob Temple for an unapproved intake manifold on the #7 Chevy, ironically that car didn't even make the race. The second largest included 25 points taken away from Ricky Rudd, and chief Michael McSwain was fined $25,000 for an unapproved spoiler adjustment after pre-race inspection at the Gatorade Duel's. Gordon's #24 put on display For all the trouble it takes to build a Daytona 500 car during the winter, then going on to win the race, teams then lose their car for a full year! Hamilton wins Trucks, Stewart Busch Over the weekend the Busch and Truck Series took a crack at Daytona. On Friday night a wild race ended in Jimmy Spencer in victory lane, but after review of the video it was Bobby Hamilton's truck that was leading when the yellow light came on and grabs the actual win. Then on Saturday Tony Stewart saved his car running in the grass and goes onto win his first ever Busch Series Race. February 21, 2005

OTHER STORIES ON THE DAY
-Both Bobby Labonte and Matt Kenseth blew engines early and ended up 42nd and 43rd.
-Michael Waltrip's #15 was strong early, but also lost an engine and gets a 37th.
-The new electronic pit road speed scoring claimed a bunch of victims a couple of times during the 500.
-During the 9th caution, the 22 Cat car of Scott Wimmer went for a wild ride part of a wreck that included the 16, 42, 19, 29, and the 25 of Vickers. Rusty Wallace just squeaked by.
-Then a big wreck on the following restart that tore up a bunch of racecars like the 12 of Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, the 0, 1, 77 and others.
-Toward the end of the race, there was that #8 car of Dale Earnhardt Jr. contending for the win yet again.
