Race Recap | Bristol
Race Recap: Kurt Busch Returns Legendary No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge to Victory Lane at Bristol
BRISTOL, TENN. -- The best way to describe Sunday's Food City 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race?

Typical Bristol Motor Speedway. With a few new twists, including snow and two of the sport's mildest-mannered drivers jawing at each other after the finish, former champion Matt Kenseth and four-time champion Jeff Gordon.

Kurt Busch won the race to give the Busch Boys a weekend sweep since younger brother Kyle won Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series race. It was the older Busch's first win in a Roger Penske-owned Dodge formerly driven by Rusty Wallace. It was his fifth win at this high-banked, one-half-mile oval, the previous wins coming in a Roush-prepared Ford.

Kevin Harvick finished second for the second time, having also grabbed the runnerup spot behind the younger Busch in Saturday's race.

It was typical Bristol bumping and banging and Kenseth and Gordon traded some paint in the last few laps with Kenseth's bumper having the last say in the on-track matter, turning Gordon around as the cars came for the checkered flag. Kenseth finished third and Gordon's spin cost him a sure-fire top five finish. Gordon wound up way back in 21st spot.

Busch took the lead from Kenseth by bumping him enough to upset his car and drove underneath while Kenseth battled for control just five laps from the finish. Harvick also slipped past at the same time.

That set the stage for Gordon and Kenseth, battling for third spot. However, Gordon took post-race honors in the off-track bumping category by shoving Kenseth backwards when he approached to have a discussion with Gordon after the two drivers had climbed from their race cars.

Carl Edwards was fourth and Bobby Labonte was fifth, the best finish in quite some time for the famous No. 43 Petty-owned Dodge formerly driven by NASCAR's all-time winner Richard Petty.

Rounding out the top 10 were Mark Martin, Greg Biffle, the younger Busch, Ryan Newman and last week's Atlanta winner Kasey Kahne.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., was 11th even though he never challenged for the lead. Tony Stewart was 12th, having led the race several times before his car lost its handle for the final 30 laps.

Busch literally drove the wheels off his Dodge Charger to make up several laps he lost when a cut tire sent him to the pits early in the race. He also managed to avoid a rash of spins and wrecks that brought out 19 caution periods during the cold afternoon, including one red flag period while workers cleaned up debris and fluids from a multi-car wreck.

Jimmie Johnson, the points leader coming into Sunday's race, was an early victim of Bristol's crowded straightaways, getting nudged into the wall. He was in for repairs for a long time and wound up 30th, 13 laps behind the winner Busch. The finish dropped Johnson to third place in the points behind leader Kenseth and Kahne.
