Hmiel suspended again for substance abuse Shane Hmiel has again been suspended from racing indefinitely by NASCAR for failing a recent substance abuse test. Shane tested positive for banned substances after Busch qualifying last week at Lowes.

NASCAR SUSPENDS HMIEL FOR VIOLATION OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 2, 2005) – The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) has suspended driver Shane Hmiel indefinitely, for violation of the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy. NASCAR officials said Thursday that Hmiel was tested for banned substances after NASCAR Busch Series qualifying at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. The results of the test were positive, violating Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and Section 12-4-E (violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) of the 2005 NASCAR rule book. Hmiel is 14th in the current NASCAR Busch Series driver championship standings.

NASCAR gets Hall of Fame proposals NASCAR has received Hall of Fame proposals from 5 cities. Atlanta, Charlotte, Daytona, Kansas City, and Richmond. Over the next 60 days, NASCAR will review them and visit the sites over summer. They have also enlisted the services of OnSport to help with the evaluation process, they have been involved with the Basketball Hall of Fame and the World Golf Hall of Fame. June 1, 2005

Teammate wrecking in fashion It seems that wrecking your teammate was in fashion at the Coke 600. Dale Earnhardt Jr. took out Michael Waltrip and said he "made a mistake." Casey Mears wrecked Sterling Marlin, and Brian Vickers indirectly left Jeff Gordon with a mangled race car. June 1, 2005
Gibbs Racing say Leffler still their driver Joe Gibbs Racing insists that Jason Leffler's job is safe, despite not even qualifying for for the Coke 600. Luckily for JGR, Interstate Batteries stepped aside for one race and FedEx was able to get a ton of exposure from the second place run of Bobby Labonte. Regardless, Jason must step up and get some decent finishes. June 1, 2005

Track attacks 24 car For the second time in as many years, Jeff Gordon had the track attack his DuPont Chevy. Crack filler debris came loose from the surface on Sunday, putting a hole in the left front of Jeff's car. You may remember a chunk of asphalt took out the right front at Martinsville last year. Busch wrecks, shoves cameraman Kurt Busch had a miserable race again on Sunday when his 97 car spun on lap 26 of the 400 laps. He said "It just snapped around on me real quick," Later he was caught on tape shoving a FOX TV cameraman out of the way. However NASCAR's Jim Hunter cleared Busch of doing anything wrong after watching the video. May 30, 2005

Jimmie Johnson comes off turn 4 and shot around the 18 for his 3rd Coca Cola 600 in a row by a 1/2 a car length for his second win of the year.
OTHER STORIES ON THE DAY
-A record number of cautions for the 600 and any NASCAR race ever, 22 total tell most of the story of this race...it was a huge version of Bristol.
-Defending Champion Kurt Busch spun early in the race and finished 43rd.
-Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a lapse in judgment and wrecked his teammate Michael Waltrip.
-Carl Edwards seemed to bump draft Dale Jarrett, DJ then tried to knock the wheels off the 99 in anger
-Brian Vickers who led 98 laps, but got caught on pit road when a yellow came out and lost track position. He later caused a big wreck when he got into the 91 of Bill Elliott
-Terry Labonte was involved in one of the many wrecks and was sent to the hospital and later released, Terry is okay. May 29, 2005
