Hamlin has off track injury HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., (May 4, 2006) - Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin injured his left hand in an off-track accident last night following the conclusion of testing at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.
The driver of the No. 20 Rockwell Automation Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series and the No. 11 FedEx Chevrolet in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series cut his left hand between his pinkie and his wrist. He was taken from the track via ambulance and was treated at a local hospital where he received stitches.
Hamlin is expected to participate in all of this weekend's racing activities at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway based upon the evaluations of Joe Gibbs Racing's team physicians.
The following is a statement from Hamlin regarding the accident:
"The guys were having races around the hauler after the test. I thought I'd try for the best lap of the night, and as I was running around the front of the truck, I caught my hand on a sharp piece of chrome. I got all stitched up and I'll be fine to race this weekend. By the way, I did finish first. Hopefully Coach Gibbs will be impressed that I can play 'hurt'." May 4, 2006

Race Recap | Gateway | Trucks Race Recap: Late Surge Gives Bodine Gateway Win, Point Lead MADISON, Ill – Todd Bodine drove his Lumber Liquidators Toyota Tundra to its second victory of the season and fifth in the last eight races to capture Saturday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Ram Tough 200 at Gateway International Raceway.Bodine, who led three times for 66 laps, dropped from the lead to mid-back two-thirds of the way into the 200-mile, 160-lap race following a pit stop for fuel and four tires. The strategy proved to be a winning one as Bodine roared back to the front with Germain Racing teammate Ted Musgrave in tow.
He caught leader David Reutimann on the 147th lap then held off Musgrave’s charge in a three-lap shootout following the race’s record, 13th caution. Bodine edged Musgrave by 0.433 second – about two truck lengths.
With a track-high 50 laps run under caution, Bodine’s winning average speed was just 84.966 mph – well below the slowest of eight previous series races at the 1.25-mile track. He won $63,925 from a total purse of $596,350.
The performance, before an estimated 40,000, also gave Bodine the series points lead for the first time in the 42-year-old New York native’s career. He heads Musgrave by 12 points following the fifth of 25 scheduled events in the 2006 season.
“I didn’t have it (strategy) figured out. (Crew chief) Mike (Hillman Jr.) did a great job making the calls,” he said. “We needed to be there at the end. These trucks work as a team. It showed here tonight”
Reutimann, who led twice for 63 laps, claimed third as Toyota trucks swept the top five positions. Former Gateway winner and three-time series champion Jack Sprague was fourth with Johnny Benson taking the No. 5 spot.
Pole starter Erik Darnell, who took the No. 1 position by virtue of owner points after rain washed out qualifying, was among a half-dozen drivers knocked out of the race by accidents.
Four drivers – Bodine, Musgrave, Reutimann and Dennis Setzer – swapped the lead seven times. April 30, 2006

The two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion – whose No. 8 Chevrolet carried the familiar black paint scheme of Dale Earnhardt on Dale Earnhardt Day – recorded his 13th career victory while becoming the only series driver to win in his first three starts at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. Truex hung on to win the race after a late caution brought out by Busch Pole winner J.J. Yeley caused the field to take the green flag with only three laps to go. Harvick finished second after starting 19th and stretched his lead to a commanding 299 points over Clint Bowyer, who finished fifth. Busch and Vickers worked together to lead a combined total of 40 laps and finished third and fourth, respectively. The race was slowed by four cautions including a caution on lap 67 brought out by Tony Stewart. Stewart slid down the track in front of Kenny Wallace, turned sideways and became airborne. After Stewart’s car settled upside down on the frontstretch he was hit by rookie Danny O’Quinn Jr. Both drivers were able to walk away from the wreck however neither was able to return to competition.
