Jeff Gordon's Corvette could be yours
Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon and the Jeff Gordon Foundation recently announced the launch of the Foundation’s 2006 benefit raffle. This year’s contest will put one lucky person in the driver’s seat of Gordon’s 2005 Corvette Roadster. In addition to donating his personal vehicle, Gordon has committed to pay all tax, title and licensing fees associated with transferring title from his name to the winner’s. Funds raised from the contest will be used to ensure the Foundation’s continued financial support of organizations dedicated to improving the health and welfare of children and their families. Since its founding in 1999, the Foundation has provided funding in excess of $3.4 million to various programs throughout the United States. "It has been a privilege to witness the outstanding work of so many organizations firsthand,” said Gordon. “Ensuring that The Foundation has the necessary resources to continue to help meet the physical, social and intellectual needs of children and their families is a personal priority for me. I am thrilled that so many people are willing to support that goal through events like our benefit raffle.” Tickets for the raffle can be purchased for $100 each on the Foundation website at http://www.jeffgordonfoundation.org/. All entries must be received by 12 p.m. EST on November 1, 2006. The winner’s name will be drawn on November 1, 2006 at 5 p.m. If the winner is present, the car keys will be awarded on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at the Dickies 500, at Texas Motor Speedway. A complete copy of the rules and regulations are posted on the Foundation website.

Kahne wins second 2006 race
DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TX. -- Kasey Kahne gave himself and his team an early birthday present at Texas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon.

Kahne, driver of the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW, Ray Evernham-owned Dodge Charger, took the lead with 17 laps remaining and ran away from runnerup Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart to win the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race before a standing-room only crowd.

Kahne, who turns 26 years old Monday, won the race from the pole position, the second time this season the youngster from the state of Washington has won a race after posting the fastest qualifying speed. Kahne also won the Atlanta race earlier this season.

Trailing Kahne, Kenseth and Stewart were rookie Kevin Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Richard Childress teammate Jeff Burton, Scott Riggs, rookie Martin Truex Jr., Mark Martin and Bobby Labonte.

Points leader Jimmie Johnson, who never ran with the leaders throughout the 334-lap race, wound up 11th. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 12th but he didn't race with the leaders either.

Kahne's victory provided the 11th different winner in the 11th running of this event and the race also produced eight caution flags, several of them involving frontrunners.

Greg Biffle, who took the lead early in the race and was setting a torrid pace, was bumped from behind by Kurt Busch and slammed into the outside safety barrier, ending Biffle's day on the 83rd lap. Biffle had lapped more than half the field at that point in the race.

J. J. Yeley, who ran with the leaders, spun with 145 laps, ending his chances to win, and Carl Edwards did the same thing with just 79 laps to go.

Hard-luck Robby Gordon, who is fast becoming the fans' "underdog" favorite because of his single-car team, once again drove into the top five before pitting for fuel. A lap or two after pitting, another caution occured which relegated Gordon to a 20th place finish, instead of a top 10 or top five where he raced most of the sun-splashed afternoon.

Johnson still leads the NEXTEL Cup points race with Kenseth second, Kahne third, Mark Martin fourth and Tony Stewart fifth. Rounding out the Top Ten are Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick and Casey Mears.

NASCAR officials red-flagged the race for 25 minutes to repair a safety barrier after Yeley's accident.

The circuit has Easter Weekend off and then heads to Phoenix, Ariz., for its next race.

VICTORY LANE

Kasey Kahne picks up his second win of the season, 3rd career, and believe it or not all his wins are from the poll.

-J.J. Yeley, Ryan Newman, and Carl Edwards all had mangled race cars after each had separate wrecks.
